I know I've done this character a few times.  I just wanted to be more adventurous with the redesign of this character.

Overwatch - Balam by sketcheronline
Overwatch - Balam
Hey everyone,

This is a piece I created for the sketchtheatre monthly contest.  The theme was to create your own character for the Overwatch universe.  I am very inspired by what I have seen from that game so I decided to take a shot at it and create a Mayan-type character seeing as how they only had the one animal(gorilla).  Hope you like it.

Hey everyone,

It's been a while since I posted something here so I wanted to take the opportunity to tell you about this new venture that I am embarking on.  I am working on a Manga comic based on my characters from the Kock Fighter Club.  I am working on the last few pages and cover at the moment.  This will be the first volume.  I will work on more once this one is released.  I am very excited about this project and I hope you will like it as well.
Stay tuned for more news.

Best,

Arturo

Hey everyone,

My name is Arturo and I am a concept artist, illustrator, caricaturist, character designer. I enjoy all sorts of art but my favorite would have to be entertainment art. I love pieces that tell a story and engage the viewer in a direct and powerful way.

Thank you very much.  It's coming along.  Hopefully I will have the second part finished this month.  It's gonna be hard to finish the whole thing.

It was a character design exercise that got the best of me.  I added the energy bars to make it look like a game cause I like fighting games.  But I couldn't make that game on my own.  So the graphic novel is what I decided to do.
If you are going to take any inspiration, I would prefer it to be to make your own project, whatever it is.  Start it and finish it.  That is the hardest part.  Success is something we cannot control.  We can only do our best and let God do the rest.

I'm really enjoying your redesigns of classic superheroes. I've been doing something similar with DC characters. I want to redesign Ares to be streamlined and less conspicuous, but I've failed on my last several attempts. And ideas for taking the armor-clad god of war and simplifying?

Hi, thank you for your question.
Well, I am not really familiar with that character so I can't really say how I would interpret him.  But I would say that you have a couple of choices: You could either design him in a similar "greek style" armor but with your own take on it - making the character recognizable but with your own interpretation.  Or you could modernize the character by completely removing the classic armor and going for something more current or perhaps even futuristic.  But still including elements of the classic outfit that way anyone can recognize who he is without you explaining.
If you are going to do the classic armor, I would recommend gathering reference of real greek armour and designing your own take.  You can either go with the realistic approach, or you can stylize the hell out of it and make it all broad and ornamental.  Depends on what it is you prefer visually.  Hope that helps.
